Terms of Entry

The terms and conditions of entry which applied in 2007 were as follows:

(1) Entry is open to anyone who currently lives, works and/or studies in Scotland.

(2) Individuals may enter as many works as they wish.

(3) All entries (the work and the supporting statement) should be submitted in the English language. We regret that we are unable to judge entries that are not in English.

(4) There is no entry fee.

(5) Entry implies acceptance of all the terms and conditions and confirms eligibility.

(6) Entries must be the original work of the entrant, or group or company represented by the entrant. Copyright on all work remains with the originator.

(7) Entries may be submitted by individual creatives, by an individual member of a creative group, or, by an employee of a creative company. The entrant will usually be the principal creative of the work being entered.

(8) The entry can be any artistic work from any of the creative industries. These include: the arts, crafts, publishing, television, radio, music, design, architecture, film and computer games. Entries could therefore include, for example: a novel, piece of sculpture, craft artifact, theatrical play, photographic work, musical composition, television programme, feature film or animation.

(9) Work by students (whether taught or self-taught), school pupils or community groups, and by creatives within three years of course completion, should be submitted as works of ‘emerging talent’. Work by established creatives and creative companies should be submitted as ‘established talent’.

(10) All entries must be completed works which have been made available to an audience or public or where there are plans in place for this to happen.

(11) The winner in each category will be that entrant whose creative work, in the opinion of the judges, best promotes environmentally friendly practices and greener living, and whose work makes a positive statement. Entries will be judged on their merits alone, irrespective of their scale, their scope or the experience of their creators. Entries will be judged on four criteria: flair, reach, impact and inspiration.

Conditions of Entry

(12) By entering the competition entrants agree to take part in promotional activity for the Eco Prize, including having their images, names and creative works featured in press coverage of the Prize free of charge, and in supplying contact details to the press. The names of the shortlisted entrants, their website address, if applicable, and the region in which they are located, will be published and made available on request.

(13) We accept no liability for the safe delivery or for the return of any, and all, material submitted.

(14) The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.  The judges reserve the right to withhold or vary any or all of the awards or prizes without explanation and may, at their discretion, move competition entrants between categories. Eco Trust reserves the right to modify, or add to, any of the terms and conditions of the competition and the judges’ interpretation shall be final.

(15) Employees of the Eco Trust, the Ecology Building Society, Friends of the Earth Scotland and The Lighthouse are not permitted to enter.

The Eco Prize is awarded by the Eco Trust, a charitable trust. In 2007 its principal funder is Sust, the Lighthouse on Sustainability,
our contributory funder is the Loch Fyne Oysters Trust, with further financial support from the Russell Trust,
and it is run in association with Friends of the Earth Scotland and The Lighthouse.
